History
Malaysia Airlines was founded in 1947 as Malayan Airways, later changed to Malaysian Airways after Malaysia became independent. Its name was again changed to Malaysia-Singapore Airlines and thereafter ceased its operation. Then it was divided into Malaysia Airlines and Singapore Airlines, and started its operation in 1987, with flights serving Southeast Asia, East Asia, South Asia, Middle East and the Kangaroo Route between Europe and Australasia. Malaysia Airlines operates transatlantic as well as transpacific flights from Kuala Lumpur. The safety norms of the airline have helped the company build a strong brand name for itself in the national and international carrier space. This has also led to many prestigious awards and accreditations for Malaysia Airlines from International Air Transport Association with IOSA (IATA Operational Safety Audit). It is among the only six airlines to be given a 5-star rating by Skytrax. Not only this, Malaysia Airlines also figures in the list of Quality Approved Airlines by Skytrax.

The airline has a total of 87 aircrafts in its fleet, with an average fleet age of 13.6 years. The fleet includes B747-400P, B777-200, A330-300, A330-200, B737-400, A380-800 and B737-800 among others. Malaysia Airlines ply regular flights to connect 87 destinations across six continents.
