As the railways struggled to tide over funds crunch and political turmoil, security of the passengers was neglected. The rapid increase in the number of thefts and robberies in the recent days has caught everyone’s attention. To curb this major issue, the Western Railways has decided to accelerate the process of installing CCTVs in all the coaches. To start with, CCTVs will be installed in some of the premier trains including Rajdhani, Shatabdi Express and August Kranti Rajdhani.
The CCTVs installed on Humsafar and Tejas trains have costed INR 2.5 lakh per coach. The Western Railways is planning to spend around INR 50,000 to INR 60,000 per camera installation cost. Approximately, INR 4 lakh will be payed for the installation of six CCTV cameras in six rakes.
