The temporary shutdown of Jet Airways has increased the traffic on the Mumbai-Delhi railway route by 10 per cent. To cater to the rush, Western Railway has introduced a special train between these two cities. In the coming months, it is also planning to introduce another such train service.
Jet Airways used to operate around 8-10 daily flights between Mumbai-Delhi. Since the shutdown, statistics show that between March 15 and April 15, 2,17,814 people have travelled between Mumbai and Delhi, which is 20,000 more than last year during the same time frame.
Book TrainsApart from this, Rajdhani Express which was recently started between Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus and Nizammudin has also been running on full capacity.
South and northbound trains have also been affected due to the shutdown, with fares of AC III tier ticket having gone up by 100 per cent.
Chief public relations officer, Western Railway, Ravindra Bhakar said, “To clear the extra rush on the Mumbai-Delhi route, we have already started one IRCTC special train and are planning to start another one. Apart from that, we have begun adding extra coaches to the trains currently plying on these routes.”
