In the month of September 2018, the Western Railway (WR) collected Rs 8 crore as fine from ticketless travellers as per a recently released report.
This amount is 13.70 per cent more than the penalty taken during the same period last year.
Chief Public Relation Officer, Western Railway, Ravindra Bhakar said, “Nearly 1.94 lakh cases have been caught by the Western Railway in September 2018 for travelling without tickets / irregular tickets.”
“236 checks were conducted by the Department of Commerce of West Railway against the brokers and anti-social elements. As a result, 151 persons were apprehended and they were fined under various sections of the Railway Act”, he added.
