Here’s what we know:
From January 16th, 2023, each day tripper will be charged 3 to 10 Euros, depending on how busy the Italian city is on the day they want to visit.
Important: Tourists who stay overnight in the city will be exempt from the fee since they would already be paying a lodging tax at their hotel.
As per news reports, tourists often far outnumber the locals in the city. This leads to clogging of narrow streets and overuse of footbridges for crossing the canals.
Kindly note: Day trippers who do not book and pay ahead of their visit to Venice will face a fine of up to 300 Euros.
Who is exempted from these fees?
Residents, persons with disabilities, homeowners, people who visit for medical reasons, and those who are visiting their relatives or attending cultural events will be exempt from the fees. Children under the age of six will also not be required to pay the charges.
