Legends and Spiritual Significance
Popular beliefs and legends say that Saraswati – the Goddess of knowledge, arts, music, and science – was born on this day. Devotees across the country bring the idol of Goddess and worship her with immense reverence and love. It is also believed that Lord Brahma created this universe on the auspicious occasion of Vasant Panchami.

Rituals and Customs
The colour yellow holds a special significance in Vasant Panchami. In order to welcome the springtime, people dress in yellow coloured attires. This festival is celebrated mostly in the northern states of Punjab, Bihar and West Bengal. People celebrate it as a festival of kites in Punjab. Whereas in Rajasthan, people wear jasmine garlands on the day of the festival. Although there is no special time to perform Saraswati Puja on the day of Vasant Panchami, most of the people perform Saraswati Puja during Purvahna Kala – the time between the sunrise and the midday.
Traditional Delicacies
In West Bengal, the Goddess of intellect, Saraswati, is offered boondi ke laddoo, sweet rice, and khichdi bhog. Kesar halwa is also prepared in several parts of the country as the Prasadam. Punjabis devour makke ki roti, sarso ka saag and meetha chawal on Vasant Panchami.
