Railway Minister, Piyush Goyal said that all trains coming to Delhi will be on electric traction from December 2019.
This move by the railways is expected to improve safety, lower the fuel bills and increase the speed of trains. The cost of this project is Rs.12,134 crore.
In September 2018, the cabinet approved the proposal for the complete electrification of the Indian Railways in the next 4 years. This decision was taken to reduce dependence on imported fossil fuel and for saving revenue.
