Indian Railways has decided to replace India’s first semi-high speed fully air-conditioned Tejas Express with Train 19, a new, faster alternative. With this move, Railways plans to stop the production of Tejas Express completely.
Tejas Express runs on a WDP3A diesel locomotive, capable of hitting speeds of up to 160 kmph on track and up to 180-200 kmph during trial runs, which is exactly the same speed that Train 18 provides.

Book TrainsTejas Express will be upgraded to Train 19, a proposed, long distance EMU (Electric Multiple Unit) that will have sleeper coaches instead of only chair cars.
Train 19 is a flagship project of the ‘Make in India’ initiative. It will use a new technology called DPRS (Distributed Power Rolling Stock) that will help with faster acceleration and deceleration.
Currently, there are two Tejas Express trains operating in the country. The first one that started in 2017 runs between Mumbai and Goa. The second was inaugurated in March 2019 and runs between Chennai Egmore and Madurai stations.
