There’s no denying the fact that the best way to discover the length of India is by taking a train ride. Over the past few years, Indian Railways, the world’s fourth largest railway network, has extended its routes to include some international destinations as well.
If you’re planning a vacation anytime soon and love trains, here are a few international destinations you could consider for your next holiday:
1. India-Nepal
Covering a total of 34 kms, the train departs from Jayanagar in Bihar and arrives at Kurtha in Dhanusa district of south-eastern Nepal. You can expect an immigration check at Jayanagar station manned by either the Bureau of Immigration or the state government.
2. India- Bangladesh
There are two train services to Bangladesh from India: Maitri Express and Bandhan Express.
Started in 2008, Maitree Express has been successfully running for a decade now. It runs between Kolkata and Dhaka.
Bandhan Express was flagged off in November 2017 and connects Kolkata with the Bangladeshi city of Khulna.
3. India-Pakistan
On the Indian side, the train runs from Delhi to Attari while on the Pakistani side, the train runs from Wagah to Lahore. Remember that the train number is 14607 and the ticket for the same can only be booked offline at Atari Junction in Amritsar.
Apart from these, India is in talks with nations such as Bhutan, Myanmar, Vietnam, Thailand and China for direct railway lines.
