Indian railways is working on a new project to manufacture world-class, engine-less train sets for long distance overnight journeys. It will eventually replace the Rajdhani Express.
Code-named Train 20, ICF (International Coach Federation) has named it after the year it plans to roll out the train.
Special Features:
- The train will feature an all-aluminium body instead of steel to make it more energy efficient.
- The train will also be self-propelled and engine-less, capable of attaining a maximum speed of 160 kmph.
- It will also have driver cabins at both ends to make the turnaround process less time consuming.
- The train sets would have underslung 3-phase propulsion system and automatic doors.
Train 20 is currently being pitched for long-distance overnight travel with chances that it may run on the crucial Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani route.
