The #MakeInIndia campaign has taken India by storm. Back in 2011, a project was launched to ensure that Indian Railways offers a “homely” feeling to every passenger who gets on board. The plan was to ditch the boring and primeval design by bringing about magnificent changes in the color, appearance and seating arrangements of the coaches and revamping the toilets, a major pain area for all the passengers.
It’s 2015 and we see a rather enticing refurbishment of Indian coaches which has changed their appearance totally. The trial run for these 24 coaches was executed between Bhopal and Bina railway station at the speed of 120 kmph. CRWS (Bhopal coach rehabilitation workshop) is responsible for the design and brilliant features.
As per the agenda, 100 coaches will be built out of which 87 would be non-AC, 17 would be for AC 3-tier, 5 would be for AC 2-tier and one each for AC 1st Class and AC chair car. The cost of construction for AC and sleeper coaches are INR 70 & 49 lakhs respectively.
- Jerk-less seats and wider berths
along with spacious seating arrangements
- Chains for middle berth replaced with side railing and chains
- Carpet-like paint on the floors of the trains
- Bio-toilets brought to all the coaches
- LED lights for reading and separate charging points for mobile and laptops installed in every coach
- Furthermore, fire extinguishers installed on both the ends of each coach
Thank you Indian Railways for making our Journey more beautiful than the destination. To be able to book your tickets 30 minutes prior to departure is another awesome feature that the Indian Railways has recently added.
