There is a good news for train travellers who have been booking tickets via the Flexi Fare System (last minute ticket bookings at a 50% hike on ticket prices for vacant seats) for premium trains including Rajdhani, Duronto and Shatabdi Express running on different routes. Passengers will have only have to pay 40% instead of 50% for train bookings via flexi system for the above mentioned trains. The Indian Railways is planning to introduce the new fare system for last minute bookings. No fare change is applicable on 1st AC and Executive Class though.
What Is The Flexi Fare System All About?
The system that was introduced on Sep 7, 2016, aims at allowing the user to book train tickets, last minute on a 50% fare hike for premium trains. Once the final chart is prepared, one can avail the vacant seats by paying 50% additional charges on the base fare of tickets. According to the data shared by a senior railway official, this leads to many unreserved seats in all the premium trains.
Facts
The Indian Railways stated that almost 5,871 seats remained vacant in Shatabdi, Duronto and Rajdhani during the period–September 9 to October 31 in 2016. The authorities are now hopeful that this latest development will help in more bookings as compared to the last few months. It is estimated that the Flexi Fare System across 42 Rajdhanis, 54 Durontos and 46 Shatabdi will help in generating approximately 500 crore revenue in the current financial year.
