The Iconic Toy Train Derailed Near Kurseong, Darjeeling

Five people including the driver were left injured when the famous Toy Train went off the tracks. The accident occurred at around 3:25 pm on Tuesday near Kurseong area in West Bengal. All the injured people were provided first aid by the health unit of the railways and have been admitted to Kurseong hospital. Β

This is the first time that the train has derailed in such a manner, and the cause of the accident is yet to be ascertained. As it is the peak tourist season, the train was carrying approximately 40 passengers. It could have turned into something even more disastrous if the coaches of the train had slipped down the hill.

Popularly known as the Darjeeling Himalayan Railway, the train was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999. It travels from Darjeeling to Siliguri and covers a distance of around 82 kms in 7 hours. The train service has been detained till all the repair work is done.

Hope, the railways succeeds in finding the root cause of the accident and such accidents don’t happen in future.
