Starting September 1st, Indian Railways has decided not to provide free travel insurance to the passengers. While booking train tickets online, passengers will be given an option to opt-in and opt-out for travel insurance.
IRCTC has been providing free travel insurance to the passengers since December 2017 in a bid to promote digital transactions.
Details about the travel insurance:
> Maximum cover of Rs.10 lakh in case of a person’s death during a train journey
> Rs. 7.5 lakh if a person is disabled due to an accident
> Rs. 2 lakh if injured
> Rs. 10,000 for transportation of mortal remains
The order to charge for the travel insurance will be generated soon.
