Famous fashion designer Ritu Beri will design new uniforms for about five lakh railway employees which comprises of on-board staff, TTEs, station masters, guards, drivers and catering personnel. From this festive season in October, the railway employees dealing with passengers will adorn designer uniforms with black and yellow t-shirts and fluorescent jackets.
For the front office staff, half and full sleeve t-shirts in black and yellow combinations with the Indian Railway logo has been created. For the catering staff deployed in trains, a set of t-shirts in white with black border has been designed. Keeping all the TTEs, guards and drivers in mind, two types of half-fluorescent jackets which are in yellow and green in colour have also been designed. These new designed uniforms will also be given to all the technical staff in workshops and production units.
In the 2016-17 budget address, Railway minister Suresh Prabhu had said, “The uniforms of all customer-facing roles will be refurbished to clearly distinguished them on our network.”
The transformation journey of railways through new uniform designs reflects the spirit of the organisation, said a senior railway ministry official.
“We are examining the new designs of uniforms submitted by Ritu Beri and decision on final selection would be taken shortly,” he also added.
As part of Project Swarn, these new designed uniforms for railway employees would be tried on few Rajdhani and Shatabdi trains first and then later on, the makeover will extend to other trains as well.
This step has been taken to enhance the travelling experience of railways passengers.
Indian Railways is all set to unveil the brand new look with smartly dressed on-board staff on October 2.
