To ensure safety and punctuality, the Northern Railways has come up with a plan to tackle the foggy season by providing 2,648 fog safety devices in trains.

The fog safety device which is a GPS based equipment will provide advance warning to loco pilots about the approaching signal.
These devices have also been provided to East Central Railway (877), North Central Railway (537), North Eastern Railway (975), Northeast Frontier Railway and North Western Railway (802).
Also, in order to alert the loco pilots about approaching signals during the foggy season, railways will deploy fogmen for placing detonators (a device which generates sound when the train wheel passes over it) on the tracks.
Walkie-talkie sets have also been handed over to the crew and the station staff. Moreover, signal indication booklets and counselling are provided to the loco pilots for working during the foggy season.
