The Indian Railways has announced a plan to redevelop the Gorakhpur Railway Station in the state of Uttar Pradesh with ‘airport-like’ facilities. The redevelopment plan aims to transform the station into a world-class transportation hub that can cater to the needs of modern-day travellers.

The project will receive a budget of ₹612 crore and is expected to take around five years to complete. The new station will be designed with modern amenities and features that will make it more convenient and comfortable for passengers. It will have an air-conditioned waiting area, multiple food and beverage outlets, retail shops, lounges, and a range of other facilities that are commonly found in airports.
The renovated station will have a concourse of 63,000 sqm with a seating capacity for 3,500 passengers. During peak hour traffic, the station will be able to handle nearly 17,000 passengers.
