Thanks to a technology, known as “Head on Generation” (HOG) which will allow power generation cars to be replaced with sleeper coaches. Currently, most Indian trains have power cars housing diesel generators, which supply electricity to coaches for several purposes including fans, lighting and air conditioning.

According to railway officials, by October 2019, over 5,000 coaches will operate on the new technology. This step will also save Rs. 6,000 crore in fuel bills annually for the railways.
The new technology, which is eco-friendly, with no noise or air pollution will also reduce carbon emissions by 700 MT per year per train.
