Why carry a magazine or an iPod with you, when you know you can make use of all the entertainment options provided to you while you are on the go (in this case on a train journey).
You’ll be happy to know that our very own Indian Railways is all set to introduce infotainment options and Rail Radio for commuters as well as those waiting at the platform.
It’s interesting to note that the various infotainment products offered to passengers would include:
- Movies
- Online Books and Magazines
- Sports
- News
- Fashion and Lifestyle
- Kids Shows
- Games
- Spirituality
Additionally, the products will be put into three different categories– free, normal and premium. Only those who are either carrying a smartphone or a laptop would be able to consume the content.
As per a senior official of the Ministry of Railways, “Several companies like Saregama India Ltd, Hungama Digital Media Entertainment, Moving Talkies and Zee Entertainment have already shown interests for the project on Infotainment, while Radio Mirchi and Fever 104 are interested in Rail Radio project”.
Not only this initiative would help serve and entertain passengers but also boost the overall revenue of the Indian Railways.
According to R. P. Thakur, Executive Director, Non-Fare Revenue of the Ministry of Railways, “The project has been given to railways PSU RailTel for implementation and would be completed by this fiscal”. He further added, “We see it as a good source of revenue for it and the companies would be selected through a bidding process so that Railways can earn as much revenue as possible.”
The focus of the Indian Railways is on improving the services as well as the travel experience of the passengers.
