Train toilets have always been a pain-point for Indian Railways and its passengers. But a recent update in railways revealed, that train toilets are all set for a major makeover and they would resemble those in premium-class airlines. Railways is geared up with a blue-print of new user-friendly, modular toilets for AC and well as non-AC classes.
The interiors of western toilets for AC coaches, constructed using imported Korean material will be overall white with muted, non-reflective LED lighting. The toilet seats will see a major improvement and will be attached with stainless steel, anti-theft fittings. The typical steel sink will be replaced by a modular wash-basin. According to the sources, the Railway engineers also tried to include sensor-based touch-free taps but the idea was discarded.
As per officials, the non-AC coaches will have new toilets carrying a signature blue theme with a “posh look”.
What’s More
The toilets will be finished with modern toiletries, coated flooring for minimising soiling and automatic fragrance and soap dispenser. The plumbing will be absolutely concealed and even the door locks will resemble the ones in aeroplanes. All toilets will be zero-discharge bio-toilets.
According to sources, Railways would take an extra INR 3.5 lakh per toilet for the upgradation.
