Railways to install CCTV systems in all coaches and stations by 2022

In an attempt to provide a safer travel experience for passengers, Indian Railways is all set to introduce CCTV cameras at all the stations and coaches by March 2022.

Last year, the railways already installed CCTVs at 503 railway stations across the country.


Indian Railways received Rs.500 crore under the Nirbhaya Fund for installing CCTV cameras. It also allotted Rs.2,000 crore for installation of CCTV cameras at over 6,100 stations and in over 58,600 coaches.

Note: To identify culprits, railways will also be using facial recognition and Artificial Intelligence.


Railway Board Chairman V.K. Yadav said, “The CCTV in the train coaches will be fitted in the common area and it will not compromise the privacy of the passenger.”
