Indian Railways is planning to manufacture around 640 coaches of India’s first semi-high speed train, the Train 18, also known as Vande Bharat Express, in the next three years.
The proposed plan is to manufacture 160, 240 and 240 coaches of Train 18 in 2019-20, 2020-21 and 2021-22, respectively at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai.
At present, two rakes of the train, one on the New Delhi-Varanasi and the other on the New Delhi-Mata Vaishno Devi Katra route are being operated by the Railways.
