To provide better safety and security to women passengers, the Northeast Frontier Railways has started reserving a portion of the SLR (Seating cum Luggage Rake) coach with pink colour. This colour will help the women passengers identify the coach on the platform easily.
Presently, sleeper coaches with portions are in operation in the Rangiya Division of NFR in passenger trains bearing number 55817/55818, 55803/55804 and 55809/55810. These trains run between New Bongaigaon and Guwahati. Also, passenger train number 55895/55896 which run between Rangiya and Murkongselek also have these coaches.

Railway Minister Piyush Goyal tweeted about the development that said, “For the safety of women, now trains are being set up in the same way as the metro, in which women will travel alone or with small children. They have been started by the Northeast Frontier Railway, soon this facility will be started in other trains.”
Railways will also deploy RPF (Railway Protection Force) and Ticket checking staff to maintain the new system.
