4th December 2017: Huge Saving for Railways as 9 lakh Senior Citizens give up Ticket Subsidy in 3 months

More than 9 lakh senior citizens have voluntarily given up their ticket subsidies under the ‘Give Up’ subsidy scheme which has helped Indian Railways save around Rs. 40 crore. Between July 22, 2017, and October 22, 2017 – 2.16 lakh men and 2.67 lakh women gave up their full subsidy, while 2.51 lakh men and 2.05 lakh women decided not to avail 50% of their subsidy. 5th December 2017: Land acquisition for the first bullet train of India begins

Indian Railways has begun land acquisition for India’s first bullet train project between Mumbai and Ahmedabad. For constructing this 508 km high-speed corridor, the national transporter requires 1,100 hectare of land for which a plan has been submitted to local administration in 12 districts of Gujarat and Maharashtra. 6th December 2017: High-speed Train Network to Connect Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai

Indian Railways is all set to launch an ambitious project to reduce travel time by interconnecting the four major metro cities – Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata with a high-speed network of trains running at a speed of 160 kmph. The project is called “Golden Quadrilateral” and it envisages the creation of a 10,000 km network of semi-high speed routes connecting the four major cities and is likely to be launched on 15 August 2022, to coincide with 75 years of Independence.
