Chilled potable water at Re. 1 at Goa railway stations
You’ll be happy to know that soon Goa’s railway stations will provide water at Re. 1. The Indian Railways Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) has made available water ATMs that will provide 300 ml of water. The initiative is all about providing cheap yet purified water to the train passengers.
It’s interesting to know that the water which is being provided at these ATMS is germ-free and purified through a seven-stage R.O. mechanism.
About 4,500 water ATMS will be installed by IRCTC across 1,200 railway stations in India.
As told by PRO, Baban Ghatge, these potable water stalls will be provided across railway stations in Goa as well. The service is already available at Kanpur Railway Station and Anand Vihar Railway Station in New Delhi, and will soon be made available at Konkan Railway Station.
In fact, these water vending machines have also been installed at Central Railway Station for the passengers to be able to quench their thirst in the grueling summer. Passengers can buy 300 ml of purified water for just Re. 1, a litre at Rs. 5, and 5 litres for Rs. 25 from these stalls placed at the station platforms. As per a railway official, though a similar facility was made available before, the new initiative have been installed as per a recent policy on providing cheap yet purified drinking water to all passengers.
The best thing is that the passengers can fill their containers or bottles by simply paying Re. 1. And, in case they aren’t carrying any, they can always purchase from the nearby stalls.
An initiative like this is definitely a great idea, considering the heat strokes people have to face while travelling during the summers. Moreover, it’s not only useful but quite affordable by both the poor and common man.
