Railways on Thursday installed five machines that will be primarily used to ensure the safety of tracks and to make train journeys more comfortable.
The machinery includes —
- Three highly efficient dynamic track tamping machines to measure tracks
- A ballast cleaning machine to scan tracks
- One points and crossings tamping machines for geometry correction
Besides this, there are 883 maintenance machines already deployed on heavy density routes. As per the statement from a railway official, “Coaches have been refurbished indigenously at a cost of Rs 18 lakh per coach for taking care of the accommodation needs of the staff of the track machines, providing them a comfortable home away from home.”
Currently, 32 such machines are in service and 62 more will be installed in the next three years.
