Railway Budget 2022: 400 New Generation Vande Bharat Trains in Next 3 Years

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced the paperless Union Budget in the Parliament for the financial year 2022-23 today. The Railway Budget, now merged with the general budget,  saw many announcements to upgrade the Indian Railways network.

Here are the highlights:

> This year, the Ministry of Railways has been allocated a budget of Rs.1,40,367.13 crore

> 400 new generation Vande Bharat Trains will be introduced. Also, 100 PM Gati Shakti Cargo terminals to be developed during the next 3 years.

Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has announced the PM Gati Shakti Master Plan. This plan would include higher spending for roads, railways, ports and mass transport. 

> Railways will develop new products and efficient logistics services for small farmers and small and medium enterprises besides taking the lead in the integration of postal and railway networks to provide seamless solutions for the movement of persons.

> To enhance the future opportunities for local businesses and the supply chain ecosystem, the concept of ‘one product, one railway station’ will be popularised. 

> Gati Shakti Masterplan and development of urban metro systems will give a big boost to the new warehousing and logistics facilities.

> 2,000 km of rail network to be brought under the indigenous world-class technology KAWACH, for safety and capacity augmentation. 

> 100% electrification of Broad Gauge Routes will be completed by the year 2023. Also, an indigenously developed automatic train protection system will be launched soon.
