Premium Trains to be revamped under Operation Swarn starting September 26

Aimed at enhancing the travel experience with advanced amenities for passengers, the premium trains-Rajdhani Express and Shatabdi Express are all set to get a makeover. After years of service, these two trains will be modernised under the project ‘Operation Swarn’.

A senior Railway Ministry official said, “The railways have decided to launch Operation Swarn (or ‘gold’) to refurbish its services after several complaints by passengers like delay in train arrival, sanitation and quality of food.”

Each Rajdhani and Shatabdi train on various routes will be allotted INR 50 lakh for the revamp process.

For the first phase, the Mumbai-Delhi Rajdhani Express and the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Shatabdi Express have been selected for the upgradation.

The enhancement process will start from September 26 and more trains will be identified in a phased manner.

 

Total Cost of the Makeover

There are 55 Rajdhani trains and 52 Shatabdi trains. So, as per the reports, the total makeover cost for these 107 trains will sum up to INR 53.50 cr with INR 50 lakh allocated to each train.

Facilities After the Revamp Process

The two trains will endow passengers with services like Wi-Fi, infotainment screens and coffee vending machines after the makeover. The modified version will also have improved coach interiors, new comfortable seats and better furnishing.
