PM Modi inaugurates UP’s third international airport in Kushinagar

In order to boost the tourism inflow to the places associated with Lord Buddha and for better connectivity, Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Kushinagar International Airport in Uttar Pradesh yesterday.

The inauguration of the Kushinagar Airport was marked by the landing of the first flight from Sri Lankan capital Colombo, carrying a delegation of over 100 Buddhist monks and dignitaries.

The first direct flight from the airport will start on November 26 to New Delhi. Direct flights to Mumbai and Kolkata will be added soon.

 

Here are some important details about the Kushinagar International Airport:

  • The Kushinagar International Airport is spread across an area of 3,600 square metres.
  • It is Uttar Pradesh’s third international airport after Chaudhary Charan Singh International Airport in Lucknow and Lal Bahadur Shastri International Airport in Varanasi. 
  • The airport encompasses Uttar Pradesh’s longest runway with a length of 3.2 km.
  • It has been built at an estimated cost of ₹260 crores.
  • The new terminal is equipped to handle 300 passengers during peak hours. 
  • The airport will offer direct flights for South Asian countries, making it easier for tourists, especially Buddhist pilgrims. 
  • As per media reports, this airport will aid travellers from Sri Lanka, Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Singapore, South Korea and Vietnam in visiting Sarnath, Shravasti, Bodh Gaya, Lumbini, Vaishali, Rajgir, Kesariya and Sankisa easily and comfortably.
