No more hopping from one platform to another searching for trains to board at Chennai Central. Yes, you heard it right! Now passengers can receive alerts on their mobiles about the platform from which their train will depart. This is a great initiative launched by Southern Railway on Friday.
All you have to do is download the NTES (National Train Enquiry System) app on your smartphone to receive platform alerts. And just in case you don’t have any data connection, you can learn about the platform details well in advance by sending an SMS to 139.
You can also check platform number or PNR status by going to the ixigo trains app.
As per officials, the details will be fed to the NTES Terminal as soon as the station master confirms the platform for each train leaving from Chennai Central. The terminal has been placed very close to the the station officer’s office, so details can be fed instantly. The platform number would be on display, whenever a passenger would enter his/her train number.
