In the cabinet reshuffle on Sunday, Power Minister Piyush Goyal was handed over the reins of the Railway Ministry of India. He was upraised to the position of a cabinet minister in the third rejig of the Narendra Modi ministry.
Goyal is known as the man who has brought major changes in India’s crisis-prone power sector. He replaced Suresh Prabhu who had offered to resign from the railway ministry recently, after a rise in the number of train accidents. Prabhu came under fire from the opposition after the Kalinga Utkal Express accident which claimed 22 lives and left 156 people injured.
On Sunday, Suresh Prabhu took to Twitter and expressed appreciation to the railway fraternity for their benevolence and support. He tweeted, “Thanks to all 13 Lacs+ rail family for their support, love, goodwill. I will always cherish these memories with me. Wishing u all a great life.”
He also added: “Congrats to all members of #TeamModi for new responsibility. Making our country better is our common mission. #NewIndia #cabinetreshuffle.”
Meanwhile, Piyush Goyal, our new Railway Minister has a clean image and a good track record in the Power and Coal Ministry. He is considered among the top performers in the Modi government and was the Minister of State (MoS) with independent charge for Power, Coal, New and Renewable Energy.
