Indian Railways is all set to surprise you yet again!
This time, travel insurance it is. As per the plan, a passenger will only be required to pay an affordable sum of Rs. 10 to Rs. 20 while booking his/her ticket on the website of the Indian Railways to avail an insurance worth Rs. 10 lakh. The idea is to minimise the financial loss passengers incur in case of untoward incidents.
It is learnt that the pilot project will begin from August (this year itself). There’s absolutely no compulsion of taking the insurance as the Indian Railways has kept it optional for passengers.
A passenger will get an insurance cover of Rs. 5 lakh for hospitalisation, Rs. 10 lakh for death or permanent disability and Rs 7.5 lakh for injuries or partial disability.
As told by A. K. Mital, Railway Board Chairman, “Currently there are railways claims tribunals which provide compensation in case of mishaps. One can claim compensation in case of accidents. Now we are offering additional service of insurance”.
