Kerala, which reported the first case of coronavirus in India on January 30, has set an example on how to fight the deadly pandemic. Out of the 503 reported cases in the state, only 30 cases remain active.
The recovery rate in Kerala is about 93.24%, which is far beyond the national average of 28.71%. Importantly, Kerala has also managed to keep its mortality rate low at 0.79%, with 4 deaths due to coronavirus so far. In comparison, the national mortality rate is about 3.42%.
Reasons Behind Kerala’s High Recovery Rate:
1) The state swiftly traced 100 contacts of every coronavirus positive patient and quarantined them to control the spread. Moreover, the authorities regularly checked people in the quarantine facilities to ensure no one ran away.
2) Along with following standard procedure, the state also ensured patients were provided with psychological support.
3) The majority of Kerala’s coronavirus patients were between the age of 21 and 50 years. To limit the spread to the elderly population, the authorities instructed all persons above 65 years of age and those with existing health conditions to self-quarantine in their homes.
4) Kerala had the second-highest number of coronavirus patients in India in March, after Maharashtra.
