Inspired by Indian stepwells that descend down into the ground, New York is constructing a new tourist attraction in the shape of a honeycomb.
Designed by British Designer Thomas Heatherwick, this structure is called “The Vessel” and will stand as the centerpiece of Hudson Yards, a huge construction effort comprising of multiple towers and public venues.
15 storeys high and donning a total of 2500 stairs, this masterpiece will soon offer the residents of New York a new way to engage with their own city.
Upon completion, the public square will house more than 8,000 plants and 200 mature trees, including a 200 ft-long fountain that will mirror the flow of a river.
