Railway Board is working on a new scheme under which all trains will run on time and will not stop at any station for more than 5 minutes. Trains including Mail, Superfast Express, Passenger, MEMU and DEMU trains will follow this new scheme. This is the reason why the new timetable of trains is expected to be effective from 1st October 2017 instead of 1st July 2017.
Even long distance trains like Duronto will follow the new schedule. Trains will stop for 15 minutes at a station only when the engines or bogies need to be replaced. On reducing the stagnation, the Railways will have to make changes in the operating time of every train in the southeast zone. According to the railways, boarding and deboarding of parcels, changing of the engine, adding bogies takes a considerable amount of time. To resolve issues like these, the railway workers will be trained to work more efficiently, so that the train traffic is not affected.
According to Dr. Arun Tiwari, a member of National Railway Consumer and Advisory Committee from Jamshedpur, this is a very good initiative. But, only reducing the stoppage time will not help the trains to run on time. Stopping the passenger trains on the outer due to goods trains should also be discontinued.
