Indian Railways is finally ready to offer a jerk-free experience to people travelling on premium trains. This has been made possible with the introduction of a new version of the Centre Buffer Couplers (CBC) – the equipment used to attach train coaches.
According to an IE report “Indian Railways has managed to retrofit all its LHB (Linke-Hoffmann-Busch) stock – over 5,000 coaches, including all the 42 rakes of Rajdhani Express.”
The unstable nature of the couplers was the root cause of jerks in all the premium trains including Rajdhani, Shatabdi, etc. Moreover, they posed a safety issue as well.
Rajesh Agrawal, Railway Board Member Rolling Stock, said, “To use regenerative/dynamic braking at speeds above 30 kmph, drivers are being counselled in order to completely smoothen the draft/buffing forces. Semi-automatic couplings will also be planned for trains like Vande Bharat Express.”
