Indian Railways has achieved a significant milestone by successfully making 2000 railway stations Wi-Fi enabled. As per a statement, “The concept behind providing free Wi-Fi to small railway stations is to cater to rural and low population density areas and provide them with state of the art internet facility.”
In the first phase, the Wi-Fi was made available at 1,600 railway stations. RailTel, a railway PSU, started providing free Wi-Fi services at these railway stations with a vision of turning them into a platform for digital inclusion. Later, RailTel partnered with Tata Trust for providing internet facility at the remaining stations.
