In an attempt to improve the flying experience and domestic flight bookings in India, the Ministry of Civil Aviation has finalised a new passenger charter.
According to the charter, travellers can cancel tickets without having to pay any cancellation charges, within 24 hours of the booking. This will ensure that changes in travel plans will no longer lead to hefty cancellation charges. They can also claim compensation from the airline in case their baggage is lost.
Please note that this new rule comes with a condition. The airlines can levy cancellation charges if the tickets are booked less than seven days before the scheduled departure time of the flight.
The cancellation fee will be limited to the total of base fare and fuel surcharge. Other components like tax, user development fee, airport development fee and passenger service fee will have to be part of the refund amount.
You can also opt for ixigo assured while booking your tickets via the ixigo app. In case of booking cancellation, ixigo assured helps you claim a full refund.
Other than this, passengers can now also make name corrections for free within 24 hours of booking. Since the pandemic’s onset in March 2020, these developments have become more valued among travellers.
