1. Bengaluru Airport Halt Station to Begin Operations from This Week
The railway halt station near the Kempegowda International airport (KIA), Bengaluru, which was completed in October, will begin operations from this week. However, the authorities are yet to announce the exact date. The railway station, which is just 3.5 km away from the KIA terminal, is expected to benefit close to 28,000 airport employees and passengers.
Commuters will be taken to the airport from the railway station through shuttle buses run by the BIAL (Bengaluru International Airport Limited).
The Railways has announced that it will be operating three pairs of trains on this route initially. The fare is likely to be Rs 10 for the ordinary trains and Rs 30 for the express ones from the Bengaluru City station to the KIA halt station. Moreover, passengers will also be able to conveniently check their flight details at the halt station itself.
This rail connectivity will serve as the first alternative to reach the airport without using the existing road network. It will greatly assist the travellers in reaching the airport in a budget-friendly and time-saving manner.
The Ministry of Railways confirmed this information via their official Twitter handle:

2. Jharkhand’s Bokaro Airport to be Connected to Patna & Kolkata Under the UDAN Scheme
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) has announced that it is developing the Bokaro airport in Jharkhand for civil flight operations. Once the civil operations begin, the airport will be connected to Patna and Kolkata through the UDAN scheme.
The UDAN scheme is used to provide financial incentives from the Centre and state governments as well as airport operators to select airlines in order to encourage flight operations from unserved and under-served airports. It also allows the fares on these airports to be kept within affordable price limits.
At present, the Bokaro airport is owned and operated by the Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL) and is used for handling non-scheduled flight operations of SAIL aircraft or VIP movements.
Over 80 percent of the development work has been completed and the airport will soon be ready for civil operations. The airport terminal building will have the peak hour capacity of 300 passengers. See pictures and other details:
