The Rail Coach Factory (RCF) recently introduced four advanced Vistadome narrow gauge coaches having glass roofs and large windows for the Kalka–Shimla heritage track.

Search TrainsAccording to the officials, these coaches – an AC executive car (12 seats), an AC chair car (24 seats), a non-AC chair car (30 seats), and a power-cum-luggage and guard car – would have a trial run on the Kalka–Shimla route before being put into service.
After clearance from the Commissioner of Railway Safety, the coaches will be put into service. The date of their flagging off will be decided soon by the Railway Board.

The coaches feature panoramic windows and a lightweight structure, accompanied by an enhanced bogie and an improved braking system. Additionally, they are equipped with contemporary safety measures such as CCTV cameras and fire alarms.
The coaches will be adorned with visually pleasing plush interiors and windowpanes coated with anti-UV material.
The upper-class section will have power windows, powered doors, a heating-cooling package, concealed fans, and linear LED lights that will enhance the overall ambiance.
The seating arrangement will be modular, with a dedicated restaurant area featuring luxurious seats for the executive class and a mini pantry for added convenience. Each Vistadome coach is estimated to cost around ₹1.3 crore.
