Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has announced that passengers flouting COVID safety norms at the airport will now be issued a fine of Rs.1000 on the spot.
These safety norms include wearing a mask that covers the mouth and nose properly, and maintaining appropriate social distancing.

The CSMIA has deputed marshals to monitor different parts of the airport and levy fines on those refusing to comply with the necessary precautions. In case of further non-compliance, the violators will be handed over to the authorities for necessary action.
This fine has come into effect starting from April 1:
With effect from April 1, 2021, a fine of INR 1000 will be issued to individuals who do not follow COVID safety norms at CSMIA, such as wearing face masks & maintaining social distancing amongst others.

As per the airport, this move has been mandated by the latest guidelines issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), instructing airports to enhance surveillance to ensure that flight passengers are appropriately following all necessary precautions while travelling during the pandemic.
The guidelines also state that the airports may take strict action, such as levying spot fines to ensure COVID appropriate behaviour:

The new guidelines come shortly after the DGCA instructed airlines to deboard passengers violating COVID safety precautions in flights.
Since the Mumbai Airport resumed domestic flight operations back in May 2020, it has adopted several safety measures to ensure that passengers have a safe and comfortable flying experience.
These measures include floor markings to promote social distancing, spaced seating arrangements and installation of plexiglass to minimize face-to-face interactions between airport personnel and passengers, among others.
