Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Crosses the Hurdle Over BKC Land !!!

The railways can now safely move ahead in rolling out their bullet train project as the Maharashtra Government has agreed to give land at the BKC (Bandra-Kurla Complex). Initially, The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MRDA) was not in support of giving the land to the railways and this was the reason behind the contention between the two. The authority wanted to use the land for opening the International Financial Services Centre (IFSC).

As the station is planned to be built underground, the above space can be utilised for IFSC construction. The total land available at the BKC is approximately 27 hectares and around 4 hectares of land will be used for this project. Construction of the corridor is expected to start in 2018 and will be completed by 2023.

The proposed bullet train will start from BKC and will travel 21 km in a tunnel passing through the sea before finally reaching Thane. There are a total of 12 stations on the 508-km route, four of which are in Maharashtra and eight in Gujarat. It takes about seven hours to travel between the two cities and the bullet train aims to reduce it to about two hours.
