Indian travellers will now be able to apply for visas for some Schengen countries and Saudi Arabia straight from Lucknow. Residents don’t have to travel to New Delhi any longer as VFS Global has opened its new joint application centre in the city.

Uttar Pradesh CM Shri Yogi Adityanath inaugurated the centre earlier this month. It has now started accepting applications for Austria, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Portugal, Croatia, Italy, Hungary, Germany, Switzerland and Saudi Arabia.

The Schengen area comprises 26 European countries and is a passport-free zone within the European Union (EU). With a Schengen Visa, travellers can visit any EU member country for tourism or business purposes for up to 90 days.
Applicants are typically required to schedule an appointment for the visa 4–6 weeks in advance. This is why it’s advisable to start the process as early as possible.
