Keeping this in mind, the Railways has answered the most common questions asked by travellers regarding the new rules of local train travel. Take a look below:

What are the new travel timings for the local trains?

The general public can board the local trains from the first service till 7 am, then from 12 pm to 4 pm and finally, from 9 pm to the last service. Only essential services staff will be permitted to use the trains from 7 am to 12 pm and from 4 pm to 9 pm.

If someone exceeds the permitted travel timings while standing in the ticket line, will he get a ticket?

The Railways has instructed the booking clerks to observe a grace period for such situations. In case a passenger reaches the booking counter after the designated travel time has passed, he/she will be issued the travel ticket, provided he exceeded the time limit due to standing in the queue.

Till when can a passenger start their train journey after getting the travel ticket?

Whereas earlier passengers were allowed to start their train journey within an hour of getting the train tickets, under the new rules, the train journey must be started immediately. However, relaxation can be provided in case the train is late.

What rules are applicable for passengers with season tickets?

Railways has extended the validity of season tickets to the number of days lost due to the lockdown. The revalidation of season tickets has begun from February 1. See the tweet below for more information:

Along with this, the Central Railways has also released the new timetable for suburban train services. Passengers can check it here.
