Here are the details of various railway concessions you should be aware of:
Concessions for Disabled passengers:
> For Orthopaedically Handicapped/ Paraplegic persons (cannot travel without escort):
75% in 2nd class, SL, 1st class, 3AC, AC chair car and 50% in 1AC and 2 AC.
> For blind people traveling alone or with an escort:
25% in 3AC & AC Chair Car of Rajdhani/Shatabdi trains and 50% in monthly season tickets (MST) & quarterly season tickets (QST).
> For developmentally challenged people traveling with an escort:
50% in MST & QST and one escort is also eligible for the same element of concession.
> For deaf & dumb people traveling alone or with an escort:
50% in 2nd class, SL, 1st class and 50% in MST & QST. One escort is also eligible for the same element of concession.
Concessions for Patients:
> For cancer patients traveling alone/with an escort for treatment/periodic check-up:
75% in 2nd class, 1st class, AC chair car, 100% in SL & 3AC and 50% in 1AC & 2AC.
Note: One escort is eligible for the same element of concession (except in 3AC and SL where escort gets 75%)
> For Thalassemia patients, travelling for treatment/periodic check-up, for heart patients traveling for heart surgery, for kidney patients traveling for kidney transplant operation/dialysis.
75% in 2nd class, SL, 1st class, 3AC and AC chair car, and 50% in 1AC & 2AC. One escort is also eligible for the same element of concession.
Concessions for Senior Citizens:
> For men – 60 years and above:
40% in all classes .
> For women – 58 years and above:
50% in all classes.
For War Widows:
> For widows of Policemen and Paramilitary personnel killed in action against Terrorists and Extremists, I.P.K.F. Personnel killed in action in Sri Lanka, defence personnel killed in action against terrorists & extremists Extremists, Martyrs of Operation Vijay in Kargil in 1999:
75% in 2nd and SL class.
For Students:
> For students going to hometown and educational tours:
General Category – 50% in 2nd and SL class and 50% in MST and QST.
SC/ST Category – 75% in 2nd and SL class and 75% in MST and QST.
For Artists and Sportspersons:
> For artistes – for performance and film technician:
75% in 2nd class, SL class and 50% in 1st & AC chair car, 3AC, 2AC.
> For sportsmen participating in all India and state/national tournaments:
75% in 2nd class, SL class and 50% in 1st.
For Medical Professionals:
> For doctors allopathic:
10% in all classes and Rajdhani/ Shatabdi/Jan Shatabdi trains.
> For nurses & midwives – for leave and duty
25% in 2nd and SL class.
