Kedarnath and Badrinath Dhams that were scheduled to reopen on April 29 and 30th respectively will now reopen on May 14th and 15th.
The dates of reopening the shrines have been postponed as the Rawal (head priest) of Badrinath Dham reached Uttarakhand on Monday along with his retinue. As a mandatory protocol, he is asked to remain under quarantine for the next 14 days.
Tourism and Religion Minister Satpal Maharaj told the press that in case the lockdown is extended by the centre, arrangements to reopen the char dhams will be made by the concerned authorities.
The doors of Badrinath Temple are reopened after the shrine of Kedarnath is flung open for the devotees. Every year, the shrines reopen after the auspicious day of Akshay Tritiya which falls on 26th April this year. However, due to the unforeseen circumstances created by the pandemic in India, the reopening rituals have been rescheduled.
