Kashmir to be Connected with the Rest of the Country Through Railways by 2021

Soon, Kashmir will be connected to the rest of the country through rail network as the Railways is planning to complete the Chenab Bridge by December 2021.

Once completed, this bridge will become the world’s highest railway bridge, surpassing the record of the Beipan river Shuibai railway bridge. It is expected to be 35 metres taller than the Eiffel Tower.

In a statement, Konkan Railway Chairman Sanjay Gupta said, “The construction of the bridge is the most challenging part of the Kashmir rail link project undertaken post-independence and once completed, it will be an engineering marvel.”


Part of the Udhampur- Srinagar-Baramulla rail link project, the 1.315 km long bridge will connect Bakkal (Katra) to Kauri (Srinagar). This project is essential to provide an alternative and reliable transportation system to Jammu and Kashmir.
