The political crisis in Karnataka is likely to conclude today as the H D Kumaraswamy government faces a floor test in the state legislative Assembly.
The trust vote comes after a spate of resignations by MLAs from the ruling Congress-JD(S) coalition government since July 6.
A day before the scheduled vote, the Supreme Court left it to the Speaker to decide on the resignation of 13 Congress and three JD(S) rebel MLAs.
Here are the major highlights:
1. Security has been heightened around the Karnataka legislative Assembly as the floor test begins. Section 144 — preventing assembly of more than four persons — has been enforced.
2. Proceedings have begun and Kumaraswamy has initiated the debate on the trust motion.
3. Congress MLA from BTM Layout Ramalinga Reddy has withdrawn his resignation. He is in Vidhana Soudha to participate in proceedings.
4. Karnataka Congress MLA Shrimant Patil who was staying with other Congress MLAs at Windflower Prakruthi Resort in Bengaluru is currently admitted to a hospital in Mumbai after he complained of chest pain.
