Shut for over two months due to the national lockdown, thousands of temples in Karnataka are set to reopen on June 1. Mosques and churches in the state too may open on June 1.
In a statement, Karnataka CM BS Yediyurappa said, “We are going to open temples, mosques and churches in the state after May 31st. However, we will wait for the PM’s decision over re-opening of temples, mosques and churches.”
The state government is planning to issue a standard operating procedure before opening the doors. The plan is to allow all sevas (rituals) and daily pooja at the temples once they open. However, temple fairs and other religious events will not be permitted.
There are over 34,000 temples in Karnataka.
