Eight coaches of the Jabalpur- Nizamuddin Mahakaushal Express got derailed during the wee hours of Thursday morning near Mahoba station in Uttar Pradesh.

The unfortunate incident happened around 2 AM on Thursday at Mahoba railway station and left many injured. As per the initial reports, 9 people got injured as a result of the train derailment and the railways have already provided first aid to the affected passengers. However, the projected number of injured passengers seems to vary as various tabloids are publishing different figures. According to the Chief Relations Officer, North Central Railway, an accident relief train was rushed to the site for further relief work. Some of the senior railway officials including the general manager of North Central Railway and the Chief Medical Officer of that area also rushed to the spot.

Railway Officials have set up helplines at stations like Gwalior, Jhansi, Nizamuddin and Banda for providing information about the passengers.

Manjar Karar, a spokesperson of the Northern Railways said that the derailed coaches included one coach of 2nd AC, three coaches of 3rd AC, and the remaining were sleeper coaches. According to the Ministry of Railways, the rear coaches of the train have derailed. The unaffected coaches left the site of the accident at 6:45 AM and are headed for their destination – Delhi’s Nizamuddin Railway Station.
